Court of Protection Fees
We believe in complete transparency about costs. Below is a guide to the fees involved in a Court of Protection application. All costs are confirmed in writing before any work begins.
Our Legal Fees
From £950 + VAT
Solicitor fees for a standard deputyship application. Fixed-fee quotes provided before work starts. Complex or contested matters are quoted separately.
Court Application Fee
£371
The standard Court of Protection application fee payable to HMCTS. Fee remission may be available depending on the protected person's financial circumstances.
OPG Supervision Fee
Annual
Once appointed, deputies pay an annual supervision fee to the Office of the Public Guardian. The amount depends on the supervision level required (General: £320/yr; Minimal: £35/yr).
LPA vs Deputyship — Cost Comparison
Why acting early with an LPA is significantly more cost-effective
| Factor | Lasting Power of Attorney | Court of Protection Deputyship |
|---|---|---|
| Typical legal fees | From £350 + VAT per LPA | From £950 + VAT |
| Government / court fees | £82 per LPA (OPG registration) | £371 court application fee |
| Ongoing annual fees | None | OPG supervision fee (£35–£320/yr) |
| Time to complete | 8–20 weeks | 6–9 months (or longer) |
| Who decides? | You choose your attorney in advance | Court appoints a deputy |
| Flexibility | High — tailored to your wishes | Limited — court-supervised |
Still have capacity? An LPA is significantly cheaper, faster and gives you control. We strongly recommend putting one in place before it is needed.

Plan Ahead with a Lasting Power of Attorney
A Court of Protection application is often the result of not having an LPA in place. If you still have mental capacity, putting an LPA in place now can avoid the need for a costly and time-consuming deputyship application in the future. A deputyship application typically costs significantly more than an LPA — and takes 6–9 months to complete.
