Understanding your result
Is my offer fair?
A settlement payment has two parts. The first is what you are owed anyway — notice pay, statutory redundancy pay (if applicable), and any salary or holiday accrued to your leaving date. The second is the extra amount you are being paid in exchange for giving up your employment tribunal claims.
Whether the extra amount is fair depends on the strength of your claims, how fairly the process was handled, how long it might take you to find a similar role, and your employer's desire for a quick, quiet exit. The indicative claim value shown above is a benchmark — not a target. Settlements usually reflect tribunal risk and cost.
Discrimination and whistleblowing claims are uncapped and are not modelled in this calculator. If you have potential discrimination or whistleblowing claims, the value of your settlement may be significantly higher.

Tax on your settlement payment
The first £30,000 of a genuine termination payment is usually tax-free. Notice pay is taxable. Statutory redundancy pay is tax-free but counts toward the £30,000 threshold. The tax figures shown above are indicative — the exact treatment depends on the wording of your agreement.

Changes from 1 January 2027
From 1 January 2027, the qualifying period for ordinary unfair dismissal reduces from two years to six months, and the cap on the compensatory award is removed. If your leaving date is on or after 1 January 2027, your bargaining position may be stronger. Use the leaving date toggle above to compare the two scenarios.
